A Quiet Encounter

Since moving to Canada, some of my favourite moments have been the unexpected encounters with wildlife that happen when you are simply walking through a forest or spending time outdoors. Coming from India, where I grew up surrounded by the greenery of tea gardens, I have always felt comfortable in landscapes that feel alive and a little untamed.

A Quiet Encounter captures one of those still moments. The deer stands almost completely at ease among the trees, while also seeming aware of the person looking back at it. I wanted the painting to hold that brief feeling of curiosity between us and the natural world, before the moment passes and everything continues as it was.

The loose layers of the forest contrast with the detail and warmth of the deer, reflecting the way these encounters often feel to me: fleeting, quiet, but memorable.
