Blueberry Season

Blueberries feel very tied to summer in BC for me. They are everywhere for those few months, and I wanted to make a painting that had that fresh, just-picked feeling without making it too polished.

I liked the idea of the berries spilling out instead of sitting perfectly in a bowl, with the leaves and little flowers making the whole scene feel a bit more alive. I kept the background dark so all those blues and greens could really stand out.

It is a simple summer still life, and one of those paintings that reminds me of the everyday colours I started associating with life in Canada.
