I have always loved how completely the colours of the water change around sunset, especially when everything starts reflecting the oranges and yellows from the sky. This was a small study of that light, with the sailboat giving me a simple focal point to build the scene around.

I kept the brushwork loose and let the colours blend into each other rather than trying to make the water or sky too perfect. I wanted it to feel warm, bright, and a little dramatic, like those few minutes before the sun disappears completely.
