I started noticing how often small birds are around us without us really paying attention. You hear them first, then suddenly spot one sitting between branches and leaves, and a few seconds later it is gone again.

I wanted this painting to feel like one of those little everyday discoveries. The bird almost disappears into everything growing around it, which is exactly what I like about the scene. You have to look for a second before you really notice it. It reminds me that some of the nicest parts of an ordinary day are the things you only catch when you are actually paying attention.
