Last Light on the Lake

This painting feels very Canadian to me, a quiet lake, a canoe by the shore, trees reflected in the water, and one of those long summer sunsets that seems to colour everything around it.
 
After living here, I started associating Canada with moments like this just as much as with the cities themselves. I wanted to keep the painting colourful and a little loose, especially in the sky and reflections, so it has that warm end-of-day feeling rather than looking too still or perfect.
 
It reminds me of summer evenings when the light stays around just a little longer and there is nowhere you really need to be.
