Mangoes have always been such a familiar part of summer for me, so this painting came from wanting to capture them in a really simple, everyday way.
I loved the look of the cut mango with all those little cubes of yellow against the darker background, and the mix of green and red in the other fruit. It felt warm, fresh, and very much like something you would actually see sitting on a kitchen counter.
For me, it also connects a little bit back to India while still being part of the life I have been painting here in Canada.
