This painting began with one of the most recognizable faces in art history, but I wanted to see what would happen if I pulled the Mona Lisa out of the polished, controlled world we usually associate her with.
I kept her familiar pose and expression, then rebuilt the image through warmer colour, loose brushwork, layered marks, and repeated circular textures across the background and clothing. The result sits somewhere between a study of the original and my own interpretation of it.
For me, copying a famous work is never really about making an exact replica. It is a way of understanding how another artist constructed an image, then figuring out what naturally changes when it passes through my own hand.
