Orange by the Window

This is one of the simpler still lifes from my time in Canada. I kept coming back to painting fruit because it was something I always had around the apartment, and during the colder months, oranges especially felt like this little burst of colour against everything outside.

For this one, I was mostly interested in the light and the long shadow falling across the striped background. It is a small study of something completely ordinary, but those everyday objects and moments have become just as much a part of how I remember my life here as the bigger places and experiences.
