I grew up around tea gardens, so scenes like this feel incredibly familiar to me. Chickens wandering through thick greenery, disappearing into bushes, turning up wherever they pleased. It was never something I thought of as particularly beautiful growing up. It was just normal life.

Living away from home made me realise how much I remember these ordinary details. The colours, the overgrown plants, the slightly chaotic feeling of everything being alive at once. I painted these two chickens because they remind me of that version of home, not the postcard version of a tea garden, but the everyday one I actually knew.
