Living in Vancouver has made me notice nature in a completely different way. There are birds everywhere, flowering trees through the spring and summer, and so much colour even within the city.
This painting came from that side of my experience in Canada. I started with the marbled purple background and then added the bright yellow bird and flowers almost instinctively, pulling from the colours and little bits of nature I have been surrounded by here.
A lot of these paintings have become small records of my time in Canada, and this one captures the brighter, more playful side of my life on the West Coast.
