The tiger has always felt inseparable from the idea of India to me. Growing up in Assam, surrounded by tea gardens and some of the richest natural landscapes in the country, wildlife was always present in the stories, places, and environment around me, even when it was not something I saw every day.
 
Where the Wild Remains comes from that connection. I wanted the tiger to feel powerful without showing it in motion or aggression. Instead, it sits quietly within the dense landscape, almost becoming part of it. Its orange coat emerges from layers of green, while the surrounding grasses and foliage begin to obscure the boundary between animal and environment.
 
After spending the last four years in Canada, I have found myself thinking more about the landscapes I came from and the things I associate with home. This painting is partly about that memory: the wildness, colour, and life of India that I continue to carry with me wherever I go.
